Residents are expected to follow all Housing policies, community standards, and university
regulations, including the Code of Student Conduct and all local, state, and federal
laws. Violations may result in disciplinary action, including removal from on-campus
housing. Residence Life staff address violations of Housing policy, while more serious
or university-wide violations may be referred to the Dean of Students Office.
Sanctions are determined based on the nature of the violation, its impact on the community,
and the resident’s conduct history. Possible sanctions include:
- Warning: A verbal or written notice that a policy has been violated.
- Educational Sanctions: Assignments or activities designed to promote reflection and
learning.
- Loss of Privileges: Temporary or permanent loss of specific Housing privileges.
- Fines: Monetary penalties as outlined in the Housing Handbook.
- Restitution for Damages: Charges for repair or replacement of damaged property.
- Change of Assignment: Relocation to another room or hall.
- Termination of Housing Agreement: Temporary or permanent removal from on-campus housing.
If a policy violation is suspected, a Community Director or other Residence Life staff
member will investigate . This may include interviews with involved parties and witnesses.
If a violation may have occurred, the resident will be contacted via email to schedule
a Student Meeting.
Residents may bring relevant information or witnesses to the meeting. Legal counsel
is not permitted, but a parent may attend in accordance with FERPA guidelines. Failure
to attend a scheduled meeting may result in additional sanctions.
If it is determined that a policy violation occurred, sanctions will be assigned.
Residents will receive written notice outlining the decision, the reason for the sanction,
and any next steps (such as fines or room changes).
Residents may appeal sanctions of an in-hall move or greater. Appeals must be submitted
in writing to their Associate Director of Residence Life within three business days
of receiving the decision. A response will be provided within ten business days.
