Housing coordinates maintenance of the residence halls with UNT Facilities to keep
up with the physical condition of the buildings. Maintenance personnel work between
8 am and 5 pm on weekdays and are available on an on-call basis for any maintenance
emergencies that may occur during evening or weekend hours.
Housing maintenance regularly treats halls for pests. Residents who discover insects
in a room or common area should make a report at the front desk. To avoid attracting
insects and spiders, residents should keep their rooms clear of open food and cardboard
boxes and should limit the items stored under their beds. Residents are prohibited
from using bug bombs or any insect killer that could be considered poisonous in their
room.
Laundry rooms are provided in each residence hall for the use of Housing residents
only. The machines are serviced by a private vendor and all inquiries regarding repairs
and refunds should be directed to the company, request for service are available at
the machines via QR code.
Each residence hall provides a variety of games, recreational equipment, and other
items in lobbies, lounges, and other public spaces. During Quiet Hours, those items
are available to residents through the hall’s front desk. Residents can check with
the hall staff to see what is available. All items must be returned in the same
condition.
Non-Reserveable Space
Common and public areas (lobbies, TV lounges, living rooms) are considered the residents’
“living rooms” and are limited to resident use and Housing programming functions and
meetings. Non-University groups may not use these facilities for meetings or programs
of any sort.
Study lounges equipped with tables and chairs are available in most residence halls.
These facilities provide an area to study during the day or night and are large enough
to accommodate several students
- Dumpsters are located near each residence hall for the disposal of personal trash
including boxes, pizza boxes, and other waste. For health and safety reasons, residents
must take all personal trash directly to the dumpsters and are not permitted to leave
trash in hallways, lounges, or other common areas.
- Littering anywhere on campus, both indoors and outdoors, is strictly prohibited. Trash
left outside of designated receptacles, including bags left in stairwells, breezeways,
or beside dumpsters, is considered a violation of Housing policy and may result in
disciplinary action.
- Recycling bins are also available in designated areas. UNT uses the City of Denton’s
recycling services. Residents are encouraged to recycle properly by following these
guidelines:
What Can Be Recycled at UNT:
- Cardboard: Remove Styrofoam or non-recyclable materials and break down boxes. Cardboard
must be clean and free of grease or food stains
- Plastic: Only plastics with recycling symbols numbered 1 through 7 are accepted. Plastics
without a recycling symbol must be placed in the trash
Aluminum and Steel Cans: Rinse and dry containers before recycling
- Glass Bottles: Rinse and dry containers before recycling
- Paper: Place in bins marked specifically for paper. Paper must be clean and free of
grease or food stains. Napkins and paper towels are not recyclable and should be thrown
away. Important Note: Pizza boxes are not recyclable due to grease contamination and must
be disposed of in the trash
- Proper disposal and recycling help maintain a clean, safe, and sustainable living
environment for all residents. To learn more about the City of Denton’s recycling
program, visit their website here.
For your convenience, vending and ice machines are located in most residence halls.
If a student loses money in a vending machine, they should call the customer service
number posted on the machine to report the issue and request a refund.
Abuse or tampering with vending, laundry, change, or ice machines is prohibited and
may result in a referral to the Dean of Students Office.
