5/28/2020 update

Housing will resume providing tours to our incoming Fall 20 residents as of 6.1.20.  Find the latest on tours of Housing, including how to submit a tour request through the homepage announcement.

4/7/2020 update

Housing previously provided a sign-up schedule for students checking out of the residence halls through 4/3/2020.  As the number of remaining students to check out has reduced, continuing to sign up for a scheduled time is not necessary to maintain social distancing guidelines.  

Students still needing to retrieve their belongings and check-out of their room can arrive on campus at any time to complete the process.  

4/1/2020 update

Housing continues to remain open for students to complete their move-out. 

Residents, that have not already, can return to campus at any time to retrieve their belongings and return their room key.   

Students returning to campus to move-out are encouraged to follow social distancing guideline while in the residence halls.  Practices to increase public cleaning and minimize direct contact with staff are in place to mitigate exposure.

3/31/2020 update

Room consolidation of Santa Fe and Traditions residents remaining on campus for spring 2020. 

To effectively serve and mitigate COVID exposure for continuing campus residents, UNT Housing and Residence Life will count on patience and adaptability from all Santa Fe and Traditions residents to make a transition as we initiate room consolidation efforts. 

Housing & Residence Life is preparing clean, vacant rooms in Kerr Hall to receive residents from Santa Fe Square and Traditions Hall.  Consolidation room assignments will provide a private double occupancy with a suite bathroom to support social distancing guidelines.   

Current residents of Santa Fe and Traditions should log in to eHousing with this link to provide their on-campus housing intent for the Summer 2020 housing term

Boxes and packing supplies will be made available at the Traditions front desk ASAP.  Additionally, Housing and Residence Life staff will provide moving assistance from 9 AM to 4 PM daily, from Wednesday, April 1st through Monday, April 6th

Residents are required to complete their consolidation move by 4 PM on Monday, April 6th

Room consolidation for Santa Fe Square and Traditions Hall will allow for the buildings be transitioned for use by essential personnel from UNT, Denton and other external agencies.

3/24/2020 Update

As Denton County has issued a ‘stay at home’ order to go in to effect at 11:59 PM on Wednesday, 3/25/2020, UNT Housing is taking further steps in support of the health and safety of the campus community. 

Only residents that have responded to indicate “I will continue to stay on campus for the Spring 2020 semester” through eHousing will retain ID card access to the residence halls.  All other spring 2020 residents, including those that have not responded, will have access revoked as of 3/26/2020.  IDs will remain active for other University services, with the exception of residence hall access at this point.  

Until further notice, residents should not have guests or visitors. This is in line with recommended social distancing practices as prevention to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

3/20/2020 Update 
We have been actively listening to our community as we navigate this rapidly evolving global health crisis and have made the following decisions.

Residence Halls and Dining Services will remain open for those who choose to stay in their residence hall to complete their course work remotely for the remainder of the semester. We understand some of our students have nowhere else to go at this time, and we continue to find ways to increase social distancing and implement additional deep cleaning measures.

Beginning March 23, students may choose to leave university housing and complete their coursework elsewhere.  Those that do will be given a prorated housing refund based on their move-out date. Spring 2020 Dining meal plan credits will be calculated and applied in the near future.

What do you need to do?

Current residents have been sent an email with a link to eHousing to the COVID-19 Housing Status Update Form to indicate their intent. 

Students can link to the form COVID-19 Housing Status Update Form here. 

The intent form asks students to select from one of three options:
1.    I have already moved out
2.    I plan to move out of my room by Express Checkout
3.    I will continue to stay on campus for the spring 2020 semester. 

Students moving out are asked to complete an EXPRESS CHECKOUT from Housing.  
1.    Remove all of your belongings from room
2.    Remove trash to dumpsters
4.    Return your room key to the front desk - follow the posted instructions

I already moved out but didn’t checkout.  What should I do?

If you've already removed all of your belongings from your room but did not check out with staff, please return your room key to Housing.  You can return to campus and drop the key at the front desk of your residence hall or return the key by mail.  If you return your key by mail, please send the key in a padded envelope that includes paper with your name, student ID#, and Building/Room # to the following address:

What if I can’t return to campus to check out of my room?

Students that are unable to return to campus to complete the EXPRESS CHECKOUT can coordinate with Housing to send a proxy to complete their move-out.  To do so:

  1. The student should send an email to housinginfo@unt.edu that includes the student’s name, student ID# and name of the proxy. 
  2. Housing Assignments Office will confirm the student’s room assignment and forward the notice to the appropriate staff at the residence hall.  The student will be included in the message as confirmation of the proxy request being relayed. 
  3. The proxy can arrive on campus to remove belongings between 9 AM and 3 PM, Monday through Friday, to be provided access to the room by residence hall staff.
  4. Students, as possible, pass their key on to the proxy to be returned to the front desk. 
  5. The proxy will complete the key return at the front desk once belongings are removed from the room via the EXPRESS CHECKOUT process.

For students remaining on campus, which dining halls and retail restaurants will be open?

www.dining.unt.edu/hours  is the best source for dining hours of operation.

Stay connected to the Dining website frequently as hours may be modified as university plans are announced.

If I’m considering on-campus housing for a future term, can I receive a tour of the residence halls?

UNT Housing will not be able to offer tours of the residence halls until further notice.  Please browse our website for housing rates, residence hall amenities, and the 2020-2021 Housing License Agreement Terms and Conditions.

What are Housing and Dining doing to reduce the spread of germs? 

Housing Custodial staff are disinfecting touchable surfaces in public areas of the residence halls twice a day, including: hand rails, door knobs, stair rails, elevator buttons, water fountains, floor/wing community bathrooms, hand dryers, toilet paper dispensers, paper towel dispensers, soap dispensers, toilet stall doors, lobby/front desk counter tops, public office trashcans and recycle cans, pianos, music stands, table tops, study rooms, music practice rooms.  

To increase the safety of guests and employees, Dining services has adjusted service styles in the dining halls, retail and catering locations by reducing or elimitaing personal contact by modifying salad bars, flatware dispensers, condiment dispenser pumps and bottles, etc. Dining has also increased the frequency and stringency of their already-strict sanitizing protocols.
