Fall 2022/Spring 2023 Housing Application is open

Log in to eHousing, use the Apply for Housing link, and select the Fall 2022/Spring 2023 application link to complete the application process for on-campus housing for the coming year.

There is important information to consider as you submit your application.  We suggest the following:

  • Take a look at the information about each of the residence halls for a general description of the building, room types offered, and pictures of rooms and floor plans
  • Consider one of our Living Learning Communities for an immersive academic and living experience
  • Check out meal plan options available through Dining Services
  • Consider the rates for both Housing and Dining
  • Carefully review the Housing License Agreement to thoroughly understand the commitment that you are making by completing an application to UNT Housing
    • Due to the cancelation terms and the binding nature of the License Agreement, we want you to fully understand the agreement you will sign during the application process.
  • Note that an application payment is required to complete the application and secure your selected hall and room preference.

Housing has not yet reached capacity for Fall 2022/Spring 2023 Freshman Housing applications.

Freshmen are still held to the first-year residency requirement and UNT Housing is committed to housing first year students unless they are approved through the Commuter Exemption process

Incoming first year students are able to apply for a hall and room type preference, as they remain available.   UNT Housing will be implementing the freshman Assignment Queue in the near future to allow freshmen to submit and complete an application.

Assignment Queue for 22/23 applications

UNT Housing will transition to an Assignment Queue for freshmen student housing applications soon.

At that point, incomplete freshman student applications will be purged from the system to allow a fresh start within the AQ process.  Notification will be sent to students whose incomplete application is deleted.

To complete an Assignment Queue application, login to eHousing, Apply for Housing for Fall 2022/Spring 2023 and you will be directed to the Fall 2022 Assignment Queue.  The Assignment Queue allows a student to complete a housing application without making a hall/room type selection.  Doing so will establish a position on the AQ based on the date and time that the student completes the process by making the application payment.

To accommodate the first year UNT residency requirement, freshmen on the AQ will receive priority assignment in the residence halls.  Upperclassmen and returning students will be assigned as space is determined to be available to do so.

Upperclassmen Housing AQ application closed for Fall 2022/Spring 2023

As of 5/2/22, based on the number of upperclassman traditional student applications already on the Assignment Queue and limited availability, the 2022 - 2023 application for traditional returning upperclassmen and transfer students has been closed.  Students in these categories that attempt to start an application will be stopped before being able to complete the process.

Upperclassmen members of cohort housing groups are able to proceed with an application to completion.

UNT works closely with the Denton off-campus housing market and devotes time and resources to helping students obtain off-campus housing.  The Off-Campus Housing Source is available to explore the Denton off-campus housing market.

I’ve submitted my application but what exactly is the Assignment Queue?

The Assignment Queue provides the opportunity for students that had not yet completed an application with a hall and room-type preference to put themselves on the list for possible assignment in to remaining spaces.  By completing the application and making their housing pre-payment (and application fee as applicable), you will be placed on the Assignment Queue and will be assigned during the summer as we have space to do so.

Some important things to note about the AQ:

  1. The AQ application does not allow you to specify a hall or room type preference.
    • At the point you reach the top of the AQ, you will be assigned to the next space that is available for use.
  2. The AQ application requires full payment of the pre-payment and housing application fee in order to take your spot in line on the actual AQ.
    • You won’t be assigned a number on the AQ until you make the payment to complete your application
  3. Students can review their position and progress on the AQ through the Assignment Queue Status link in eHousing.
    • Once you complete the application, you will be able to find out where you fall in line on the AQ.
  4. Students that want to cancel an AQ application must contact Housing to do so.
    • If you decide to secure off-campus housing, it is your responsibility to contact UNT Housing to cancel your AQ application and avoid assignment to a room assigned. Housing will discuss the refund process individually with students that wish to cancel from the AQ.

Clarification of upperclassman on-campus housing for Fall 2022/Spring 2023

For more than 40 years, UNT policy has required on-campus residency for first-year students to allow new students to engage with UNT in many important ways. In anticipation of the continued growth of the freshman class for Fall 2022, Housing has allocated adequate bed space to continue to meet the residency requirement.

UNT has not changed any policy regarding the housing of upperclassmen on campus for the Fall 2022/Spring 2023 application period. Bed space allocation and room-type availability decisions have been made to meet the anticipated freshmen demands for the coming academic year.

As demand for bed spaces for freshmen has increased, the bed space availability for upperclassmen has consequently decreased.

All students continue to apply for housing in the same manner as before, according to their student classification (first-year student, returning student, transfer student). Housing will soon make the Assignment Queue available for returning students that wish to apply.

We understand that the limited availability of upperclassman space is not an ideal situation for some of our returning students.  UNT works closely with the Denton off-campus housing market and devotes time and resources to helping students obtain off-campus housing.  The Off-Campus Housing Source is available to explore the Denton off-campus housing market.

Self-Selection Assignment Process for Fall 22/Spring 23 Returner and Transfer Applications

Returning upperclassmen and transfer students with a complete housing application for the Fall 2022/Spring 2023 have the opportunity to complete their own room assignment.  Students will login to eHousing and select from and complete an assignment to the available rooms in the building that matches the preference on their housing application.

Each hall will have a 72 hour period for students to complete their self-assignment.  The first 24 hours of each hall’s self-assignment window will be available for students that have a formed roommate group.  The next 48 hours will allow students that have not specified a roommate to complete the process.

Access to the Self-Selection Room Assignment process will be available for 72 hours starting on the date/time of the below schedule:

Hall Preference

Self-Selection Start Date/Time

Monday, March 21 @ 10 AM

Tuesday, March 22 @ 10 AM

Wednesday, March 23 @ 10 AM

Monday, March 28 @ 10 AM

Tuesday, March 29 @ 10 AM

From 12PM on Monday, April 4 to 8AM on Thursday, April 7, any returning and transfer students with a complete application that did not previously complete the Self-Selection process will have their last chance to log in to eHousing and complete their assignment to a specific room that matches the hall/room preference selected during the housing application.

Those students that do not select a space during the final window will be assigned to remaining available space based on their application's room preference.

To complete your room and meal plan booking, during your hall's given self-selection window, you will need to:

  1. login to eHousing
  2. select the "Complete My Booking" link on the left menu
  3. use the "Fall 22/Spring 23 Self-Assign" link.

Students with a valid roommate group will be able to assign both members of the group at one time.  We recommend that roommates communicate prior to agree on any criteria for selecting a space for both roommates or coordinating a time login to eHousing together during your hall’s self-selection window to check availability together.

Those students that are still in the process of completing their roommate group may do so leading up to and during the process by returning to their application summary and “edit”ing their roommate preference to create a group.

Students that do not have a roommate group will assign themselves once the initial 24 hours of the self-assignment window has passed.

Students that do not complete a self-assignment will be assigned by Housing following the conclusion of the full schedule.
